The Sta. Monica Parish Church of Pavia, Iloilo was designed and built by the Augustinian friars and was completed in 1888. The design is inspired, interestingly, from Pavia Cathedral is a church in Pavia, Italy, the largest in the city and seat of the Diocese of Pavia!
This majestic church is of Romanesque-Byzantine influence with its facade decorated with semi-circular arched windows and entrances. It stands tall at the heart of Pavia and has a simple design with a rectangular shaped-floor plan and a barrel-shaped alcove at the back of the church.
The grandeur of this church lies in the fact that it is the only one in the whole of Panay Island to be made entirely of red bricks!
