To further show the unity and leadership of youth in Pavia through sports, the 2024 Pavia Summer Hinampang, an inter-barangay sportsfest, held its opening parade and program with its kickoff game on February 24, 2024 at the Pavia Public Plaza.
Initiated by the Local Youth Development Office led by Mr. Marc Anthony Janeo, in partnership with the Local Government of Pavia headed by Mayor Luigi Gorriceta and the Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation headed by SKMF President and Ex-Officio Sangguniang Bayan Member Gerard Peter Zaldarriaga, the sports fest includes popular tournament games such as basketball, volleyball, chess, arnis and table tennis.
The crowd of young Pavianhon athletes, SK and Barangay Officials got hyped as they joined the parade along Gonzaga Street expressing their strong sense of pride in representing their respective barangays.
SKMF President Gerard Peter Zaldarriaga, in his opening remarks, reiterated that each athlete should remember the essence of Summer Hinampang, which is to celebrate local talents and to solidify the youth of Pavia.
Mayor Luigi Gorriceta challenged the participating teams, by saying that more than the competition, the players should focus on the values that they will learn, which are camaraderie, team work, discipline and respect.
Multi-awarded runner and Pavianhon athlete, Mr. Jazten Sajonia was the torch bearer who lit the ceremonial urn signifying the start of the games as well as the burning desire of each athlete in winning in their respective sports. The Oath of Sportsmanship was then led by volleyball standout Ms. Gia Alcontin of Barangay Purok 1.
The dancing prowess of the young athletes was proved to be on another level with the performances from each barangays. Each team was given a chance for a short presentation where they chanted their yells as well as gave a glimpse of their dance moves.
Vice Mayor Bibo Gerochi, SB Members JP Peñol, Ariel Gerada and Rhia Sotomil also graced the occasion to witness and cheer for the athletes who will participate in the volleyball, basketball, table tennis, and chess tournament in the coming week. Popular Vlogger Bianca Biakiin was also present to cover the said event.
