The Municipality of Pavia marked its Municipal Cooperative Day on the third Friday of October, in time with the national observance of Cooperative Month.


The celebration was held under Municipal Ordinance No. 2023-36, series of 2023, declaring every third Friday of October as Cooperative Day in the municipality.


The activity follows Republic Act No. 11502, or the “Act Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Cooperative Month,” which mandates the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) to work with cooperative councils and organizations in promoting cooperative principles and strengthening the movement nationwide.


Carrying the theme “Cooperatives: United in Purpose and Action, Sharing Prosperity to Build a Better World,” the Municipal Cooperative Day gathered cooperative officers and members from different sectors. Ms. Joy D. Palmada, Chairperson of the Municipal Cooperative Development Council (MCDC), welcomed participants and opened the program.


SB Member Ariel B. Gerada, Chairperson of the Committee on Cooperatives, delivered the opening message. Other speakers included Mr. Nilo M. Bastiero, Chairperson of the Iloilo Provincial Cooperative Development Council (IPCDC); Atty. Arturo C. Cangrejo, Provincial Cooperative Development Officer; and Dir. Antonio C. Escobar, Regional Director of CDA Region VI.


Mayor Laurence Anthony G. Gorriceta commended local cooperatives for their contributions to economic and community development and expressed continued support for cooperative programs in Pavia.



The celebration emphasized the cooperatives’ role in promoting unity, empowerment, and shared growth among Pavianhons.
