With one week to go before the school starts, the Local Government of Pavia launched its Operation: Libre Tuli (circumcision) at Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo.
This is a yearly program of the local government headed by Mayor Luigi Gorriceta through the Local Youth Development Office, Pavia Rural Health Unit, and the Office of SB Member Rhia Sotomil.
The free circumcision was done by Dr. Carleone Borda and Dr. Mia Rose Apostol, together with the nurses and other medical personnel. They provided free tetanus toxoid, pain relievers, and guidance on care after the operation.
A total of 87 young boys availed of a thermocautery-assisted circumcision.
Circumcision offers numerous benefits, including improved hygiene and reduced risk of certain diseases. By removing the foreskin, the procedure makes it easier to clean the penis, thus reducing the likelihood of infections. Moreover, circumcision has been linked to a lower incidence of urinary tract infections and other health conditions. Recognizing these advantages, the surgical mission aimed to provide this important procedure to the community.
