The Metro Iloilo and Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) Local Chief Executives, led by Chairperson and Iloilo City Mayor Raisa S. Treñas, convened on May 25, 2026 at the Pavia Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall together with Mayor Laurence Anthony G. Gorriceta of Pavia, Mayor Dennis S. Superficial of Sta. Barbara, Mayor Elizalde Pueyo of Cabatuan, Mayor Vicente P. Jaen II of Leganes, Mayor Bonifacio S. Salapantan of San Miguel, and Mayor Sofronio Fusin of Oton.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-LGU collaboration on regional governance, public safety, sustainability, and smart governance initiatives across the Metro Iloilo–Guimaras corridor. Key discussions included the sustainability direction of the SMART METRO Project, transport and waste management concerns, and stronger coordination mechanisms among member LGUs.
During the meeting, Mayor Laurence Anthony G. Gorriceta, Chairperson of the Committee on DRRM, Public Safety and Security, moved for the adoption of the qualifications for new MIGEDC members committed to sustaining SMART METRO initiatives. He also welcomed the inclusion of the proposed Mutual Aid Clause in the MIGEDC Memorandum of Agreement — a significant step toward institutionalizing cooperation among LGUs before, during, and after disasters.
