Thirty-five Barangay Tanods from the Municipality of Pavia, have become the first batch of trainees in the police-initiated training under the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO)’s “Tanod Academy” program.

A three-day course on crime prevention, patrolling, correct arrest procedures, and self-defense will be attended by the Barangay Tanods. In his message, Mayor Luigi Gorriceta believes that all Barangay Tanods will benefit greatly from the training, which will enable them to create and carry out efficient crime prevention plans once they return to their individual barangays.

PCapt. Dande Ilalto, Assistant Chief of IPPO’s Provincial Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU), explained the thrust of the training.

The Tanod Academy seeks to improve our tanods’ abilities and knowledge so they may more successfully aid in efforts to maintain peace and prevent crime. Additionally, it seeks to make tanods a powerful tool for community crime intervention, with a particular focus on the eight priority crimes of murder, homicide, rape, physical injury, robbery, theft, motor vehicle theft, and motorcycle theft.

The thirty-five barangay tanods who will undergo the said training are expected to share their new knowledge with other members of their teams at the barangay level.

In attendance were DILG Provincial Director Engr. Carmelo F. Orbista, CESO V, Assistant Regional Director Napolcom 6 Atty. Rutchell Espinosa, OIC IPPO PCol Bayani M.
