Pavia, Iloilo – February 22, 2025 – The 2025 Pavia Summer Hinampang, an inter-barangay sports fest, officially opened with a grand parade, an opening program, and the blessing of the newly renovated gymnasium at the Pavia Public Plaza. The event also featured a kickoff game, marking the beginning of the highly anticipated tournament, aimed at fostering unity, leadership, and sportsmanship among Pavia’s youth.
The sports fest is spearheaded by the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), led by Mr. Marc Anthony Janeo, in collaboration with the Local Government of Pavia, under the leadership of Mayor Luigi Gorriceta, and the Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation (SKMF), headed by SKMF President and Ex-Officio Sangguniang Bayan Member Gerard Peter Zaldarriaga. This year’s tournament features basketball, volleyball, chess, arnis, and table tennis, bringing together young athletes from various barangays.
Excitement filled the streets as Pavianhon athletes, SK officials, and barangay representatives proudly marched along Gonzaga Street, showcasing their enthusiasm and pride in representing their respective communities.
In his opening remarks, SKMF President Gerard Peter Zaldarriaga reminded the athletes that Summer Hinampang is not just about competition but also about celebrating local talent and strengthening camaraderie among Pavia’s youth. Meanwhile, Mayor Luigi Gorriceta encouraged the players to focus on the values of teamwork, discipline, and respect, which extend beyond the tournament itself.
Adding to the excitement, the crowd was treated to an electrifying dance performance by Pavia ‘Las’ Mejores and Suburban 5001, followed by a mass dance featuring all participating athletes, energizing the atmosphere further.
A symbolic lighting of the ceremonial urn was led by torchbearers Charlemagne Emmanuel Vidal, Marc Christian Judicpa, and Christian Rein Hubag, signifying the burning passion and determination of the athletes. The Oath of Sportsmanship was then led by basketball player J. Caesar L. Dorego of Barangay Pandac, emphasizing integrity and fair play throughout the competition.
The event was graced by Congress Michael B. Gorriceta and Dr. Kathy F. Gorriceta, along with Vice Mayor Bibo Gerochi, SB Members JP Peñol, Ariel Gerada, Roy Gorriceta, Rhia Sotomil, Leonardo Belasa, and Joshua Gumban. Also in attendance were former SKMF President Kervin Matthew G. Zaldarriaga and Hon. Lee Ann Debuque, Mayor of Anilao, who joined the celebration to witness and cheer for the athletes competing in volleyball, basketball, table tennis, and chess tournaments in the coming weeks. They also took part in the blessing of the newly renovated multi-purpose gymnasium, a milestone in Pavia’s commitment to youth and sports development.
With sportsmanship and unity at its core, the 2025 Pavia Summer Hinampang is set to be an exciting showcase of young talent, determination, and community spirit.
