Aganan is situated at approximately 10.7703, 122.5357, in the island of Panay Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 18.6 meters or 61.0 feet above mean sea level.
Aganan was formerly called by the residents “Sitio Taytay” because it is located along the river bank. Taytay was named after a “long big log” used as a bridge to connect Sitio Taytay and Pavia poblacion. Aganan was not a barrio yet but was only a sitio or “arabal” of Bo. Balabag.
Pavia then was only an “arabal” of Jaro and was composed of barrios namely: Balabag, Pandac, Jibao-an, Pal-agon, Cagubao, Tigum and Pagsanga-an. In the late 1830s, after the World War I, the Spaniards constructed a solid concrete bridge to replace the log taytay to make transportation easy. The residents still called the place “Taytay”.
In the late 1920s, before World War II, during the regime of President of the Philippines, Manuel L. Quezon, another concrete and wide bridge was constructed in order to have a two way lane beside the old narrow Spanish bridge. There was a toll house at the edge of the bridge to collect fees from the vehicles crossing.
A Dairy Farm owned by Don Julio Javellana and his family was put up, a prominent manufacturer of dairy products like fresh cow’s milk and meat. The veterinarian of the dairy farm was Dr. Mamerto Castaneda. More or less 5 years thereafter, the dairy farm was closed.
In the 1942-1944, during the out break of the World War II, a Japanese Garrison was constructed at the lot of Francisco Jagolino Hechanova at about 20 meters away from the bridge to protect themselves from enemies. During this time, all trees were cut down and houses were destroyed from Sitio Taytay down to Bo. Balabag, Pandac and Jibao-an because the land was converted into cotton plantation. All the inhabitants were housed at Bo. Pandac to protect them during curfew hours.
The Barangay offers the services of the Barangay Tanod Brigade which is complimented by the Pavia PNP for public order and safety. As attested to their exemplary performance they have garnered the Hall of Fame Award as MOST OUTSTANDING BARANGAY TANOD IN WESTERN VISAYAS.
