GENERAL FEATURES

Brief History
According to old folks the name “MALI-AO” comes from the existing creek, described as “Malinao” but then the Japanese during that time could hardly spoke the word Malinao, instead omit the letter “N” and that is why until now it is called Mali-ao.

During that time the creek was very abundant in fishes, where people often fishes for food such as Pantat, Haluan, Puyo and other such as Kalampay, Urang and Sili.
During the early days, only three families owned the land of Mali-ao, they are surnamed Gulangayan, Guarnes and Hipe.

Formerly the other side of the creek wa part of Barangay Pal-agon but then in 1993 it was separated thru an ordinance passed by the Municipal Government.
Farming and tuba gathering was the main source of livelihood of the barangay during the early years.

Land
Barangay Mali-ao has a total land area os 188.88 hectares of flat plain. It has two pronounce seasons, the dry and rainy seasons.

The barangay has two water sources, the Aganan River and the creek where farmers pumps water for rice crops and vegetables during the dry season.
