GENERAL FEATURES

Geographical Location
Barangay Cabugao Sur, Pavia, Iloilo is on the northeastern of the Municipality of Pavia. It is situated along Iloilo-Capiz highway in Iloilo Province. It is the highest portion of the municipality with the elevation of 30 feet above sea level. It is approximately 1.5 kilometers from the Poblacion area.

The prominent religion is Roman Catholic which comprises 75% of the total residents while the rest are Protestants, Aglipayans, Seventh Day Adventist, Jehovah Witnesses and Muslims. The major dialect spoken is Kiniray-a or Hiligaynon.

Political Subdivision
Barangay Cabugao Sur, Pavia, Iloilo is the smallest barangay in terms of area, outside the Poblacion and which is only 83.22 hectares with a population of 2,315, the Municipality of Pavia belongs to the Second District of the Province of Iloilo.

Barangay Cabugao Sur has eight sitios namely: Highway I, Highway II, Milo, YOVA, Red Fox, New Site, Teenos and Veenom.

Socio-Economic Condition
The barangay is an agricultural barangay. The gradual rise of the industrial buildings had changed and the actual use of the area from agricultural to commercial and industrial, because of its strategic location, being along the national road, and the way of life has changed. The main sources of income of its residents are employment in government and public corporations (60%), self-employment (30%) and farming (10%).

Rice is the major crop produced with corn and vegetables as secondary crops. Livestock and fowls raised by the residents are chickens, ducks, swine and goats. Crops raised by farmers are planted in rain fed farms, while the only source of irrigation water is from the BISA Project located in the nearby Barangay, with water source completely from Tigum River.

Pinipig making is considered as the industry that has existed in the Barangay; and Baye-Baye is never absent from the table of the Cabugaonon’s during fiesta. There are also homemade candies such as “Butong-Butong” and “Bukayo”.

The Barangay has one Day Care Center Worker teaching day care pupils at the Day Care Center supervised by the MSWDO of the municipality.

Considering that the Barangay is traversed by the National Road PUJ’s plying Iloilo-Sta. Barbara route are available to the commuters as well as the other PUJ’s plying the nearby town routes are also available. Occasional taxes and private vans for hire, as well as the L300’s can also be of service.

ILECO I service power needs of the entire barangay. Telephone services provided by PLDT and Globelines as well as several mobile phone networks. Officials also communicate with the Municipal Personnel through radio and handsets.

The Barangay is a service area of the MIWD with its main double pipeline passing through the barangay. Several jetmatic pumps supplies water to the residents. Those who can afford mineral water are also available.
