General Features

Pavia is one of the smallest municipalities of Iloilo with an area of 2,703 hectares composed of 18 barangays. It is classified as a 2nd class municipality with an income of ____________ in the year ________.

The municipality occupies the central portion of Iloilo. The borders are defined by the municipalities of Oton, San Miguel, Sta. Barbara, Leganes and Iloilo City. Pavia is within the Second Congressional District of Iloilo and is a member of Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council.

It is 9.6 kilometers north of Iloilo City accessible thru the Iloilo-Capiz central road. Pavia is 10 kilometers south of the Iloilo International Airport.

The topography of the town is totally flat plains with no coastal area. It is traversed by Aganan and Tigum Rivers slicing the municipality into three (3) parts. The two rivers merge forming the Salog River which passes Iloilo City.

Economic Resources

Rice is still the main agricultural crop of the municipality with 2,660.54 hectares in two croppings planted in 2008 with a production of 8,301.56 metric tons. Other major crops for the year 2008 are, watermelon, legumes, fruit vegetables, leafy vegetables and corn.

Livestock and poultry for the same year includes: carabao, cattle, swine, goats, and poultry (including fowls).

Pavia is the Regional Agro-Industrial Center of Western Visayas as one of the components of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros-Agro-Industrial Area Development Project (PAGNAI-ADP).

As of 2008, there are already forty (40) manufacturing establishments operating in the area, producing various products such as beverages, poultry feeds, milled rice, farm implements, noodles, industrial and medical gases, foam and baked foods.

One of the main attractions of the municipality is its century old red-brick church of Byzantine style built by the Spanish Agustinian Fathers. Another is the famous Carabao-Carroza Festival held annually every May 3.

B.    Communication and Utilities

Power is supplied by Iloilo Electric Cooperative I while telephone services are extended by Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, ISLACOM and Bayan Tel and all mobile phone service providers.
Irrigation water is supplied by Aganan River Irrigation System and Sta. Barbara Irrigation System.

Potable water is supplied by Metro Iloilo Water District covering fourteen {14} barangays. Two (2) barangays operate its own Barangay Waterworks System. Other sources of potable water are deep wells and shallow wells.

Postal services is handled by the Philippine Postal Corporation. No telegram services is available in the municipality. Fax message services as well as internet access are available thru various service providers.
